The significance of my work is important. This is a reaction to minimalist interior design type work. The more layers of meaning and resonance the better.

The largeness of my work is very important. This is NOT about size but may be about gesture and impact, detail and meaning. Works of art of wildly different kinds will always hold their own in varied company, so long as they punch their weight.

The difficulty seems to be to obtain strength and interest. Some black is probably necessary.

Colours are selected carefully and applied to each plane. Leave details until last.

Work in series.

Paint like Beethoven.

Is mystery the answer?

To respond directly to a subject is a great pleasure but I must develop my studio painting.

The problem of making corrections (something the Chinese do not believe in I understand) is to be addressed.

Subtle lyricism

Have you tried using no local but only facet colour according to a hexagon of hues. Shadows (if absolutely necessary) are painted in the complementary to the facet colour. The hexagon will look like a concave or convex dome of equilateral triangles. The convex will be a mirror of the concave.

Make it so that a moron in a hurry can understand it.

Each painting changes me as I learn through making it.

Keep photos of colours that you like for use in colour mixing in the studio when you are not painting directly from the subject.

Line is more readable with less modelling. Line can express much.

Advertising art is the truest descendant of historical art.

Is art religion or decoration or advertising?

Oil paint should be mixed to soft butter with medium.

Colour interpenetration across major geometries is generally good.

I have produced a series of minimalist escapist paintings for last winter of sea scenes where image, strength and mood are a priority.

I am using an iterative process to nudge up to a finished work. Slow painting!

Wrestle with the beast. Is sketching documentation?

Mobilise the viewers imagination.
